Savings Unpluged! Article Two: Enery Audit

An excellent way to zero in on savings opportunities in regards to your monthly electric bill is to sign up for a home energy audit. Most electric companies offer this type of program to assist their consumers. As part of the program an energy auditor will visit your home and will evaluate the following items:

  • Foundation, walls, windows, doors, ceiling and roof
  • Heating and cooling system
  • Water heater
  • Mechanical systems and maintenance
  • Air tightness
  • Air quality
  • Energy-bill analysis
  • Cost/benefit analysis

We recommend that you contact your electric company to schedule an energy audit. If your electric company does not offer a program they may be able to provide information on a service provider in your area. The results of your energy audit will pinpoint the inefficiencies in your home that can be corrected to reduce your monthly electric bill.
